Rebrandable PDF’s A Viral Traffic Generation Mega-Tool!

Willie Crawford It’s no secret that, if you can create a product that points back to your site, and can then send it viral, you’ll generate an endless stream of website traffic. If your website is structured properly, you should be able to turn that traffic into a steady stream of subscribers and orders. Over the past 10 years, the biggest problem that I’ve seen with most viral tools I’ve studied, is that they fizzle before they really reach critical mass. Once a viral tool reaches a certain «velocity,» then it will continue spreading. If it never reaches that critical velocity… where enough people are passing it along, then it «technically» was never viral. Of all the viral tools that I’ve studied and dissected, the easiest to create and most successful one that I’ve personally used is the rebrandable PDF.

Let’s look at what makes that such a powerful tool! First of all, people need a reason to pass something along and send it viral. One of the best reasons they can be given for doing this is that it will make them money. When you create your PDF files, you simply set up certain links so that they can be changed to other links that pay the recipient money when they passes the PDF’s along. As someone who sells several dozen products through my own affiliate programs, I have found this to be the perfect tool. When I write ebooks, or special reports, I often give them away (or sell them very cheaply) with reprint or redistribution rights. Then I give the buyers or recipients permission to rebrand certain links in the PDF’s, changing those links to THEIR affiliate links. Now, they have a real incentive to pass the PDF’s along! They get paid when a customer makes a purchase. I’ve done this with the articles I’ve written too… given people permission to substitute an affiliate URL for my URL in these articles. This works especially well with your affiliates who publish ezine or have blogs. They happily publish your articles and substitute their affiliate ULR’s in them. They get to product a quality publication or blog with minimal effort. In my experience, the PDF document seems to work even better. I’ll let you in on a little SEO secret here. When your affiliates, or clients, take a PDF that they have redistribution rights to and post it on their websites, the PDF document will often rank HIGHER that straight HTML webpages on the same topic. The search engines sometimes seem to treat the PDF’s as more valuable, perhaps because authoritative reports and research `studies are often published online in PDF format. So, sometimes it’s better to just post your PDF documents, with branded affiliate links, or links to your own products, on your web server.

Then just link to those PDF document from another webpage that already indexed and frequently spidered.

I like to do this by referencing a PDF document on one of my blogs that’s visited by the search engine spiders every day.

PDF files have another advantage over plain text files, or html files posted on a website. They have a longer shelf-life with individual readers. The typical reader will download a PDF file to their hard drives and then periodically notice it. Since disk space on their hard drives is so inexpensive, they often hesitate to delete the PDF’s… even after they read them. So they keep seeing your PDF’s, and that increases the chance of them click a link and visiting your site, or at least passing your PDF’s on. I said that creating a PDF is easy. I simply type up my documents in MS Word (TM) and then save it using my favorite PDF creation tool. I use a fairly expensive, well-known PDF creation tool now, but there are lots of free PDF creation tools that easily output perfect PDF’s. For many years, I used a free tool called PDF995. With PDF995, after you finish writing and editing your Word file, you simply tell Word to print. When it asks for a printer, you select your PDF creation program as the printer, and the PDF is magically created. After you create the PDF, you need to make it brandable before passing it on, or selling it, if you really want it to go viral. For that I use a PDF brander called Ace PDF Brander. That’s because, I found ALL of the other PDF branders that I looked at either too expensive or too cumbersome to use. Ace PDF Brander is neither. After you create you brandable PDF, designating which links in the document can be rebranded, you want to package it up with a rebrander tool (that included when you get ACE PDF Brander) and a readme.txt file. The readme file simply explains to the recipient how to use the rebrander. You zip this all up into a neat package and you’re ready to start your traffic virus. I’ve done this dozens of time, and achieve outstanding result almost every time. If you are too lazy, or don’t feel comfortable creating your own PDF documents, Ace PDF allows you to take pre-existing PDF documents, and make links within those rebrandable. This is very powerful, but also has tremendous potential for abuse. Theoretically, you could take ANY PDF document (that’s not locked or encrypted) and rebrand the links, and then pass it on… and perhaps violate the author’s copyright. I’m certainly not advocating doing that, nor do I do it. What I am advocating doing, and what I do frequently do, is: 1) Buy reprint or private label rights to PDF documents and then make them rebrandable or rebrand them before passing them on. This allows me to either change the links inside to my own affiliate links, or to make it so that my affiliates can rebrand the links to their affiliate links. I’m sure you can see how powerful this is! 2) Request permission from the authors of PDF ebooks that aren’t rebrandable to make them rebrandable… and then change selected links to my affiliate links or pass the rebrandable PDF’s on to my affiliates. Many of the documents that I do this with were created BEFORE this technology was invented. Many of them were written when the only way that you could make a PDF rebrandable was to add clunky «tags» to the document as your were writing them. Then you converted them to brandable documents with some fairly expensive software. With modern tools, you no longer have to do that.

As you can tell, I’m BIG on creating and distributing rebrandable PDF’s. The reason is that it works in sending lots of traffic and sales to my sites. It also serves to spread my name around… building my credibility and reputation. It can do the same for you! If you’re not using this very powerful tool today to start viral traffic building campaigns, then you’re probably generating traffic using more difficult methods… or your site simply isn’t getting any traffic. What do you mean by traffic? Traffic is the number of people who click on your site to see what you have to offer. To get traffic you have to let people know that you are there and that you have something to offer. If you were to start a business in the middle of the high street, you could be reasonably sure that you would get ‘traffic’. Lots of it. People would find you and sample your goods. If you were to start the same business in one of the side streets on the edge of town, things would be different. No one would know that you were there. There would be no traffic. You would need to advertise. Trading on the internet is similar to having hundreds of thousands of small shops in the little, narrow back streets on the edge of town. There are hundreds of other shops selling things similar to you. They all need traffic. Who is going to get the trade? The answer is not the one who spends the most money on advertising. It is the one who has the most effective advertising. What is the most effective means of advertising? That is the crucial question. How much money do you have? It’s all right I am only joking. It need not cost you a dime. Some of the most effective advertising is free. I repeat, ‘FREE’. I don’t know about you but I would much rather spend a little effort than spend my hard earned money. If you are desperate for a quick response, I would advise ‘Pay-Per-Click’ advertising. This way you only pay for the number of times that someone clicks on your site. That is the equivalent of paying a fee for every time that someone looks in your shop window, even if they don’t buy anything. On the other hand, if you can afford to wait for a week or two for the potential customers to come looking through your shop window, there is a far more effective way that is absolutely free. Do you subscribe to an e-zine or newsletter? Most of us subscribe to several.

The average newsletter/ezine consists of an introduction. Followed by an advert, followed by an article, readers letters. Another advert and probably another article. It is these articles that we are interested in. Each one will have a by-line at the bottom inviting you to visit their website or something similar. These articles are seldom written by the publisher of the ezines. they are drawn from a reservoir of articles held by a small number of specialist article libraries. Study the articles in the ezines that you receive through your email. As a general rule they are written to inform on some aspect of on-line business. There is nothing that the average knowledgeable person could not write. If you had written it, the by-line would have been yours. The link at the bottom would be to your website. The number of potential readers could be anything from a few hundred to a few thousands. In a matter of weeks it could be used by ezines all over the world. It could be read by probably a million or more people. If only two percent of the readers click on your link you are in business, and it will have cost you nothing. Just think what it would have cost you to get 20,000 visitors through ‘Pay-per-click’.

The ezines that will publish your article are the ones that are interested in your topic, they are not picked at random.

Their readers are all your potential customers. If you are thinking that you could not write an article, think again. When you stop to consider the potential rewards of a 500+ word article, it is not a matter of ‘Can I’ it is a matter of how soon can I get going. If you really want to do something, you will find a way of doing it. When you have written your first article you will be keen to get started on the next one, and the next. It can become addictive. Pop Windows in Internet Marketing

A few years ago it seemed that every time one opened a web page one would be bombarded with offers for this or that. Pop Windows had arrived with a vengeance. As time elapsed the point was reached where surfing the Internet was almost like playing a video game; when the ad appeared one would try to close it before another one arose. This annoyance factor is precisely why we have seen the decline in the use of pop-up windows on today’s Internet; surfers simply do not even look at pop-ups anymore. They close the window out before even reading the ad. Very often, a surfer will even leave your site if there are too many pop-up ads. It is simply not worth the hassle of closing those windows while trying to obtain the information that your site has to offer.

This information, while valuable, is not as valuable as the surfer’s time. Studies have shown however, that even with these setbacks, pop-up windows are still an effective method of Internet marketing. Is there some way that pop-up windows can be less irritating and still be effective? Yes! What if the pop-up ad were seen upon exiting your site instead of entering? This would allow the surfer to obtain the information needed from your site, feeling that they were able to come and go quickly without being hassled by other ads and offers, all the while making the surfer happy. You have left the surfer with a positive attitude and he or she are therefore more likely to respond to the pop advertisement. This is being accomplished more and more by using what is being called pop-under windows. When the surfer comes to your site, the ad is opened discretely behind your web page. Then, upon leaving your site, after obtaining all the information needed, the ad will be seen and is therefore more likely to initiate a response. Since the surfer has the information initially required, he has achieved his objective and is now open to do other things; ideally respond to the pop under advertisement. Not all pop-windows are created equal however. There are some things that you can do to make your pop-windows, whether pop-up or pop-under more effective. The pop-window should be easy to “escape” from. If the surfer does not want to see the ad, but has a hard time closing it out, they will likely become frustrated and could leave your site all together. You should either use a button that will allow the surfers to close the window. Make sure that the “x” is easily visible. Another good idea is to use a script that utilizes cookies. Cookies will prevent pop-windows from overloading the surfer since you can decide the frequency of the pop-windows, rather than each time a page is opened. Also be sure that there is no more than one pop-window per page. When creating a pop-window, you will be asked to fill out a short information form, select the length of cookies, and choose the layout of the pop-window.

When choosing the design of the pop-window, you can increase the effectiveness by creating a large headline that includes benefits that will be most appealing to the customer. You should also consider using incentives, and lastly do not ask the customer to read a long and drawn out advertisement. Keep the message simple yet powerful and your pop-ads will be sure to generate profits for your site.
