I checked my domains traffic on my blog on Feb. 4th and had over 11,000 visitors. This is some pretty good action for the first month out. Maybe we are marketing to a specific niche outside of the Internet Marketing (IM) community, or maybe we are marketing directly to the IM community. Either way, I’m sure you would agree that we are performing a service. I run a website about pool and billiards. You can find free fundamental training on the game, information about billiards equipment and even a chart showing how large of a room you need depending on the size of pool table you are putting in the room. Wouldn’t you agree that this is definitely a service? Many people are looking for that magic pill when it comes to making money online. What we need to understand, is that in order to make money and build a business, we have to provide value to others. Look at any business out there and you will find that they provide value to others. They perform a service. If I were to take people by the hand, help them choose a topic and product, and then guide them in setting up a profitable business, You could call it an Internet Marketing Service. What kind of service do you provide? You must remember the part about providing value to others. This is the only way to build a lasting business. We see people come along who sell flash and flare with no real value. These people may make a little money short term, but unless true value to others is provided, the business will tank.

Ned does tend to get a bit excited and much like myself can start babbling and get off on tangents, so I will edit his responses to keep them direct and short.
James: Ned, what was the turning point in your online business? The point where you were losing money and the point where you started getting noticed? Ned: James when you taught me about optimizing my web pages for search engine traffic I stopped spending money and started learning search engine optimization, and after a few short weeks I was seeing the traffic increase yet I wasn’t advertising at all. James: Excellent, but you actually were still advertising, but instead of cash out of pocket it was a learning curve and you spent your time, which is still money, just not out of pocket, and that investment of time gives a great return on the invested time. James: Okay next question Ned. Do you have any idea of the money you saved by learning search engine optimization? Ned: I know that I didn’t make any money from my advertising or web site before learning from you, but I stopped paying for advertising when I started learning about keywords, content and search engine optimization. So for now I would say I have saved all my money. James: So you are saying that you really didn’t start seeing anything positive until you took the time to learn how to earn and build a list of target group subscribers? I did exactly the same thing until I learned about two really helpful forum owners, Mike Merz and Lynn Terry, from that night on my Internet life was changed for the better.

James: Next question Ned. How long did it take to see any positive results for what you have learned? Ned: This one is easy James. I started see changes in my own mental state almost immediately because I started understanding what I wasn’t doing that was causing all my stress. So there were positive results right away. The next results I noticed were in my cPanel (control panel) for my web site. There were visitor showing up and my advertising had stopped, yet my visitors were increasing. I wasn’t making any money yet, but I was getting more people to my site and even a few emails from interested visitors. It was almost a month before I put any money in my pocket and that moment goes down in history as the most positive thing that has happened to my online business. A definite turning point.

I have been running the google adsense adverts on a number of my websites for around a year now. I have to admit that I am nowhere near the stage when I would be able to consider retiring on its income. I am quite envious of these people that you read about who are saying that they are earning two thousand dollars a week on the program but am fairly sure that most people would be happy to earn six hundred dollars a month.

What adsense has helped me to do, quite strangely enough, is to stop smoking.

I will explain how in this article. In the first couple of months after I had had added the google adsense code onto some of my websites, I would go and check how much it had earned on a particular day and would be happy if it was over ten dollars. The average daily figure at this stage was around five or six dollars. I wanted to find ways of attracting more visitors to these websites which in turn I believed would help me to increase my adsense earnings. I also thought about having a number of new sites built for the same reasons. One day I was very happy as I had made sixteen dollars, this was the most I had ever made in one day. I live in the UK and this would equate to be worth about nine pounds. Later that evening my wife asked if I would be willing to go to the shops to buy her some cigarettes. I was quite happy to go as I also needed to buy some for myself. When I arrived at the shop, I asked the shopkeeper for the forty cigarettes and he in return stated how much it would cost. This amount was more than the nine pounds I had made that day on adsense. Even though I was well aware of how much a packet of cigarettes would cost, this still came as a bit of a shock to me. There I am working very hard in an attempt to increase my adsense earnings and then go about throwing what money I have made down the drain by smoking these fags.

This was enough to give me the inspiration to stop smoking, I am not trying to say it is easy but knowing that over a course of a year I am likely to save around a thousand pounds was a big help to me. My wife has also been very determined and has managed to quit smoking. We now live in a much healthier environment and can now afford to have a holiday abroad each year.
