Is Salman Khan guilty

Salman Khan: The Bollywood star has to go to prison for 5 years

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been jailed for five years for poaching. His lawyers want to appeal

Shock for Bollywood star Salman Khan (52, "Mission Liebe")! The actor, who according to Forbes is among the highest-paid actors in the world, was sentenced to five years in prison today. That reports, among other things, "The Guardian". A court in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan found him guilty of hunting a rare species of antelope from a car 20 years ago.

Alleged illegal poaching

According to prosecutors, Khan and four other actors, who were also in the car, fled when they were caught out in the act in 1998. The group left the carcasses of two killed and protected red deer goat antelopes behind. In India, it is not uncommon for litigation to go on for years. The actors involved were all acquitted for lack of evidence. Only the 52-year-old was sentenced to a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 10,000 rupees (134 euros). Khan's lawyers now want to appeal.

Khan: Bollywood's popular bad boy

It's not the first time that Khan, one of the most popular actors in the Indian film industry, has been on trial for crimes. He was sentenced to prison terms in 2006 and 2007, but was released on bail both times. In 2015, he was sentenced to five years in prison for driving his car into a group of homeless people under the influence of alcohol and without a license in September 2002, killing one man. The court granted him several postponements as his lawyers appealed the verdict.
