Form of government: 'Socialist People's Democracy' (led by the Kim dynasty, with strong military and security forces)

Head of State: Kim Jong Un (officially according to the constitution since August 2019). Formal title: "General Secretary of the Labor Party, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces". To simplify matters, especially in the media, the expression “Supreme Leader” is also used.

Representative of the head of state: Not expressly regulated. In terms of protocol (reception of the ambassador), Kim Jong Un was represented by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, Choe Ryong Hae.

Head of Government: Prime Minister Kim Tok Hun (since August 2020)

Foreign Minister: Ri Son Gwon (since January 2020)
