"Rocky Horror" star Tim Curry turns 60

London (queer.de) - Tim Curry, world-famous for his role as the shrill transvestite in the musical film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), turns 60 today. As a sex-obsessed scientist Frank N. Furter, he was and is the role model for countless carnival parties, costume parties and transvestite shows around the world. Curry celebrated his first theatrical successes in the hippie musical "Hair". On this occasion he also met "Rocky Horror" inventor Richard O'Brien know. On June 16, 1973, he stood on stage for the first time in London as a bulging-eyed freak who, like his almost namesake Frankenstein, is putting together an artificial creature - not a monster, but a blonde lust boy. "Some male viewers looked away ashamed when I stepped on stage for the first time with a tight outfit," recalls Curry to the dpa. The actor has now taken on over 170 film and series roles. At the height of his career, Curry also recorded three albums of rock music: "Read My Lips" (1978), "Fearless" (1979) and "Simplicity" (1981). (jg)
